Fractalontology
One of the finest blogs on ontology: http://fractalontology.wordpress.com/2007/11/05/translation-veronique-bergens-diagram-of-the-evolution-of-deleuzian-concepts/
Philosophy is creation
Deleuze calls philosophy as an attempt to look and seek concepts, a discipline that is just as inventive as any other discipline, and it consists in creating or inventing concepts. Concepts have to be produced. Philosophy tells stories, stories with concepts. He constantly compares the concepts within philosophy to cinema, to scientific activity, as each new philosophical concept is akin to movements within cinema.

The emerging mind
Our ability to perceive the world around us seems so effortless that we tend to take it for granted. But just think of what's involved. You have two tiny upside down distorted images inside your eyeballs but what you see is a vivid three-dimensional world out there in front of you and this transformation is nothing short of a miracle. How does it come about?

How to think immanence?
Take, for example, Plato’s Meno and Phaedo. It will be recalled that Plato famously argues that learning is recollection. That is, to learn is not to acquire new information from the outside given to us by a teacher– elsewhere Socrates will refer to himself as a midwife of knowledge, i.e., he does not bestow or give knowledge but only asks questions that allow a person to recollect knowledge they already have –but rather to learn is to recollect an unconscious, innate knowledge. Good and bad procrastination
The most impressive people I know are all terrible procrastinators. So could it be that procrastination isn't always bad? Most people who write about procrastination write about how to cure it. But this is, strictly speaking, impossible. There are an infinite number of things you could be doing. No matter what you work on, you're not working on everything else. So the question is not how to avoid procrastination, but how to procrastinate well. Read more here in this blog by Paul Graham

Saying and Seeing - Deleuze on Foucault
Deleuze is insistent in his book on Foucault: despite appearances, despite the fact his recently deceased friend placed emphasis on discourse, he was a thinker of what Deleuze calls visibilities (and we should not be too quick to look for a definition of this word). Read more

Volcanic Lines: Deleuze at Greenwich
Staging EncountersVolcanic Lines: Deleuzian Research Group is based in the University of Greenwich Philosophy Department. The department is located on the Maritime Greenwich campus of the University in one of the baroque courts that make up the Old Royal Naval College, a World Heritage Site on the banks of the River Thames. The launch of the Research Group in Autumn 2006 followed the success of The Work of Gilles Deleuze International Conference in July 2006. Its aim is to organise events focusing on a diverse range of philosophers. The Deleuzian inspiration is to stage encounters between different figures and test the limits of this approach. It will not be restricted to considering only the encounters Deleuze himself staged and developed. It will seek to continue his approach of seeking more challenging encounters and indeed questioning whether his own work was either too narrow, in excluding figures such as Hegel, or too broad in its range to be effective. Does it make sense to talk about encounters if they can produce anything and involve any thinker? The research group will also have an interdisciplinary edge, tapping into Deleuze research in departments other than philosophy. In this way it will be both radical and boundary breaking whilst being rigorous and critical in testing the limits and depths of the Deleuzian practice of encounter.

Conversation Agent
Your Face, Everywhere -- Are There Too Many Social Networks?
In the last three days I received two invitation to join Facebook, one invitation to join Pownce and two inquiries about my Twitter address (see an analysis by USAToday). Mind you, I have a profile on LinkedIn, and an old one on Ryze -- remember that one? Does anyone use it anymore? And let's not forget Jaiku.
Why do we need so many tools for social interactions? Have we suddenly become incapable of interacting with our friends, neighbors and colleagues?
Have we become so isolated in our daily work life as agents of our destiny that we need to have surrogate environments to hang out? Read more here

With all senses
With all senses, The first book on how to eliminate interfering sound in the car.
This book by Klaus Steinberg addresses innovative techniques of how to combat interfering noises in the conception and design of automobiles.
Interfering noises (or interfering sounds) are sounds with a negative sound quality, that is, the sound event leads to a hearing event, which is perceived as unpleasant, disturbing and interfering. This sound event usually releases negative associations as regards the suitability of the product and it is on the whole perceived as not matching the product.

Global management challenge
The Global Management Challenge is a student game. Over 350,000 university students and junior managers have played the world’s largest strategic management competition since its inception in 1980. This year, 19,000 students will play the GMC in 25 countries.
Student teams signing up for the GMC will be assigned to a real world company. Companies cover their teams' registration fees, so students do not have to pay themselves in order to participate. Additionally, companies may choose to mentor their players in business strategy and game tactics.
In October 2007, the competition will begin and each student team will be given the management of a virtual company. The teams then develop this virtual company by making a series of decisions relating to every aspect of the business.
Their decisions are run through sophisticated business simulation software, which generates in-depth management reports. The aim is to finish the game with the highest price on the virtual stock exchange.

The jigsaw classroom
The jigsaw classroom is a cooperative learning technique with a three-decade track record of successfully reducing racial conflict and increasing positive educational outcomes. Just as in a jigsaw puzzle, each piece--each student's part--is essential for the completion and full understanding of the final product. If each student's part is essential, then each student is essential; and that is precisely what makes this strategy so effective.
Reputation Research Network
The Reputation Research Network is about research on reputation systems. A reputation system gives people information about others' past performance. It can enhance an on-line interaction environment by:
helping people decide who to trust;
encouraging people to be more trustworthy;
discouraging those who are not trustworthy from participating.
This site is for researchers who are studying how reputation systems should work in theory, how they actually work in practice, and how they could work better. You can find out about people, papers, and practical systems. And you can contribute pointers to useful information.

Spritivity: The spaces in between
Spritivity is a workshop developed by Zenzone Media Lab of the China Culture Administration Society in Beijing, China. It originated in a project linking Chinese and Japanese Schools It is now being developed, as a joint effort with the London Multimedia Lab for Audio-visual Composition and Communication at LSE, to offer communication between students in primary schools in China and England, working together to explain, share and explore how they understand and can animate their environments they inhabit. Spritivity, as a communication medium, relies on developing a picture language for making and exchanging stories, where the key characters are sprites extracted by the students themselves from photographs which they take of those specific parts of the environment which interests each of them.

The emancipated worker?
Are contemporary workers are isolated, alienated and repressed human ruins - as popular discourse and beliefs would have it - or are people working in the pioneering conditions of the information age actually quite like their working realities and actively participate in their reconstruction and reproduction?
What if, in fact, in the avant-garde professional work organisations of the information age, working subjects already largely experience themselves as emancipated? But, even if this seems to be the case, might there be more subtle mechanisms of control at play?
A book by Hannele Huhtala
